Alma Panameña

By Maria S.

For Hispanic Heritage Month, I wanted to create something personal to myself and my heritage. I was born and have lived in Panama for my whole life and never quite realized just how special my country is.

Panama is in a very unique position, having a crucial role in global trade for centuries. Because of this, our culture adopts aspects from all over the world. I tried to feature the most iconic aspects in my drawing, things that any Panamanian will look at and immediately recognize such as the beautiful skyline of Panama City, the Holy Spirit Orchid, the Harpy Eagle, the Panama Canal, and the beautiful national dress, the Pollera.
