Sora Journal

January Parent Roadmap Overview

By Sora Schools

At the first Parent Roadmap of 2024, Sora parents spent time together and with faculty and staff and learned about some exciting updates!

Extracurricular Activities

2024 is already off to a really exciting start - with two brand-new extracurricular programs! Our High School Dean of Students, Alan Parish, shared details with parents about the new programs and our extracurricular coaches. Check out this video introducing Lawrence Stallings, drama coach, and Hannah Nunley, debate coach.

Sora Expert, Mike Zang

Mike Zang is a Humanities and sometimes STEM expert in the Nova middle school campus. Mike shared about his love of learning alongside the students and being a lifelong learner. He expressed that he loves teaching at Sora because our community embraces different types of learning styles. He shared that as a neurodivergent person, there were some challenges in middle school.

“I felt othered,” said Mike. “I was made to frequently feel like I was bad at learning, which turns out I'm not, right? Like, I just told you I love learning. I'm actually pretty good at it.”

And this is one reason why Sora is so special.

“We're cognizant and aware that there are many different ways of learning, many approaches to learning and we revel in that instead of pushing back against it.”

Expedition Swap is Live

Holly Kinnamont, Product and Platform Specialist, relayed information about the new Expedition Swap feature in Sora Home, as well as some upcoming product updates.

Expedition Swap allows students to request changes in their schedule and it is currently underway for Cycle 4.

Coming Soon

  • Our product team will soon launch an absence request revamp. This will allow parents to edit and delete absence requests and make a request from the student calendar on the Sora Home home page.
  • New guardian settings in Sora Home will allow parents to add emergency contact information and a recovery email for students, which will assist with password resets.
  • Parents will see their student's Rosetta Stone mastery level on the progress page in Sora Home.

We will keep you updated as these upcoming features are released!

Parents, please check Heartbeat for the full recording of the event if you would like to see more.
